Looking for Play Pals
The West Bridgewater Integrated Preschool is looking for typically developing children, who attend the preschool as “Play Pals”. The Integrated Preschool serves typically developing peers as well as children with identified needs. The program has been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children since 1999.
The curriculum of the Preschool is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, the Guidelines for Guidelines for Preschool Learning and NAEYC Curriculum Standards. It addresses areas of: language, math, science; social studies; physical development; safety and heath care; and learning in the arts.
Play Pals attend three days a week, either morning or afternoon. We anticipate having 12 openings for Play Pals. There is a tuition cost $80.00 per month. A Play Pal must be a West Bridgewater resident, three by April 25, 2007, and should meet typical developmental milestones.
If you are interested in having your child’s name entered in the lottery for Play Pals, a letter needs to be in the Superintendent’s office by April 18, 2007. This letter should state your child’s name and date of birth; your name, address and phone number.
You will be contacted after April 18th so that you can set up an appointment to have your child screened. All Play Pals are screened, to ensure that each child is normally developing. Most, but not all, of the children who are picked in the lottery will get a slot in the Integrated Preschool for the 2007-2008 school year.
What is the Integrated Preschool?
The Integrated Preschool educates children 3 years to kindergarten age. It is in the Spring Street School. It has been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children since 1998, as a quality preschool program.
The Preschool is staffed by a teacher and two teaching assistants on a full time basis. In addition, a speech therapist spends part of two days in the classroom. And the Adaptive Physical Education teaches a developmentally appropriate lesson each week.
Play Pals
Play Pals are typically developing children who attend the Integrated Preschool three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday). There is a morning and an afternoon session. The tuition for Play Pals is $80.00 per month. Parents are responsible for transporting their child.
Curriculum
As part of the West Bridgewater Public Schools, the Integrated Preschool is responsible for addressing the MA DOE Curriculum Frameworks at the children’s developmental level. We teach many foundation skills that the children will build their learning onto, throughout the school years.
As a preschool program that participated in Community Partnerships for Children, we also address Guidelines for Preschool Learning, which is related to the Curriculum Frameworks.
In addition, as an Accredited Program of NAEYC, we are responsible for their Curriculum Standards. This curriculum is even more extensive than MAs criterion.
The curriculum addresses: literacy, language arts, mathematics, science, social science, social skills, gross motor, fine motor, self-help, safety and self-care, learning in arts, and social/emotional health.
Learning Through Play
Young children learn through play, by actively moving materials around. When a child plays in the sand box, he/she finds that tall, thin container may hold as much sand as a flat, wide container. A child pouring water in the water table finds out that when the container is full, the water spill over into the water table, unlike sand which would pile up on top. A child building with blocks quickly learns that the biggest block will stay on the top of the building, only if it has support underneath it.
We’re proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards. NAEYC Accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences possible.
